At some point, many caregivers realize they’ve been answering needs automatically. A request comes in and the answer is already forming before there’s space to consider it. The habit builds slowly. A doctor recommends more oversight. A family member assumes you’ll handle something. A new responsibility gets added without much discussion. After a while, it starts to feel like there isn’t a real choice, just a series of things that have to be absorbed.
